Let's have a trip down memory lane, shall we? Because lists are fun, and so is remiscing....so how about a reminiscent list? I have a feeling that I'm getting the English all wrong but at this point I'm not so sure that I care about my grammar and sentence structure at this hour, at this time of year. Anyway, this was inspired by Dom and Lia.
White Rose, 1.5 years of happiness, crabbiness, crappiness and all of that stuff in between: (If you're really not interested in my work, and I really wouldn't be unless I worked with me, then I suggest you just stop now because you'll be bored to tears.)
- First day: Sarah trained me (and trained me well, I might add...) and my inaugural step into becoming a "real" employee, my first buggy run
- Horrible, horrible, rotating Christmas music...or rather, Christmas Muzak. Best songs in the whole entire world. Then I found myself singing them...and in Xmas of 2002, dancing to them, which Candice will readily remember.
- Jingling reindeer ears at Christmas, me and Jacob having the only two pair, and hitting customers in the face with them as I was bagging their merchandise
- The allergies...the perpetual allergies. Although one time, Andrea gave me some kind of medicine and it miraculously took them away. It was like, "superdrug"...I must ask her what it was so that I can get some more of that
- The one customer and her daughter who, circa season 2, would occasionally come into the store, buy something and have a casual chat with me about American Idol. Best. Customer. Ever.
- Lady with the lazy eye and a bed and breakfast...who bought about $700 worth of clearance stuff on my first day.
- Loud lady...who I have come to know as Brett..she may have been the lady with the lazy eye and a bed and breakfast, but perhaps it was her sister or something. Either way...most annoying customer, ever...annoying, but was a big spender at least.
- The time I was under $100 in cash...the time I was over $100 in cash, and of course, all the times I got written up for missing money. Boo hoo.
- How at one point, 80% of my friends were working at White Rose...and how 80% of the people working at White Rose have become my friends...Funny how things work out that way.
- Doing the pot wall, and breaking like, 10 pots. Good use of the write-off binder that evening.
- Steve: his rockin' attitude, funny stories and occasional supposed drunkenness, although I never personally experienced it
- Helping Tracey's daughters with their math over the phone
- Jetéing through the aisles with Cristina
- The scary-ass spiders we sold at Halloween, my immense fear of them and Justin's mocking of that fear! Haha
- Staff appreciation nights - all of them rocking...Especially that one last summer when I got some good burgers and (*look below for a semi-account of other events in relation to staff appreciation nights*)
- PORTULACA! Best flower, ever.
- The stupid "Patio" button that isn't even labelled as that, located about the stupid "Total" button...Always accidentally charging customers some ridiculous amount like $925.77
- Pens = Gold
- Mauro counting his $110 off, thinking he was $10 over and then remembering that the didn't take out the $100 float
- Beatrice...one of the most intermolesting characters I've ever encountered, including her excessive rambling and hatred towards York
- Daytime cashes like Anne, Agnes and Kathy, other home decor like Val and Deb - the most rockin' ladies I know
- Various and frequent slacking off with Sarah!
- Vending Machine Man - "Who are you voting for?...The Liberals are ruining the country...Gays should be shot...The future rests on the young, vote for PC!..."...and more yapping out of this ass.
- The occasional free meal...the sporadic free meal
- Having to work on holidays when nobody else in the free world has to
- New Year's Eve, 2003...Silence, restocking shelves, feeling like I'm going to fall sleep on my feet...
- The beautiful, beautiful tunes. Haha, although I know Michelle would have enjoyed the prime days when Enrique's "Hero" was played over, and over, and over, and over... Although in its defense, it now plays a little bit of Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Nikka Costa periodically, which is not too shabby at all
- Singing/Belting "Sometimes" in the office with Michelle and Leesa and then getting scolded by the managers for turning up the music.
- The one time I was in my car with Candice and backed into the planter/lamp-post.
- Angela! I miss her...
- Chris B's fear of dirt, and non-fear of spiders
- Mike B.! Big fuzzy teddy bear!
- Greeting: "HI! WELCOME TO WHITE ROSE! TODAY WE ARE HAVING A SPECIAL...."
- Cornell Park's "Art in the Park" with Cris, Sarah, Danielle and Tracey - Paint, sand and various other materials everywhere, then returning huge tanks of helium in my car...for which I should have been compensated for, lol.
- The birds and their nests over the cashes, and never did I get pooped on...at least, not so far
- Squirrels, especially Frank and various other rodents.
- "Chad, line 3"...Was it Chad? Either way, the snack truck was in the driveway
- Charming cops... "charming"
- Timmy Hortons runs, food runs
- Playing various sports with random merchandise
- Perpetually opening up boxes and saying "What the crap."
- "Where's your washroom?" "It's out of order" "Where do you go?" "We don't."
- The Harry Pottateers.
- Scaring the crap out of Dom when I asked her for the time
- My friendly stuffed flower
- Then of course.... White Rose: The Soap Opera which is all too funny and embarrassing to publicly post so if you're curious, feel free to ask!
I think that's it for now. If you have any other favourite memories, suggest away! Or better yet, comment away! I'm going to miss that place so much even though I refer to it as Hell... A true love/hate relationship...
